Take the 9 GW interconnection queue of a utility-scale solar and storage developer through PJM and MISO reform and on to construction.

The role

The business develops utility-scale solar and battery storage across 11 states, with 1.4 GW operating and a further 9 GW in interconnection queues. Queue reform in PJM and MISO has changed the economics of the pipeline, and the investment committee now treats interconnection as the main constraint on growth. The role is new and brings together engineers who currently sit within separate regional development groups. You will report to the Chief Development Officer and work closely with the transmission and project finance teams.

What you will do

  • Build and lead a central team of six interconnection and power systems engineers, with two further hires approved.
  • Set queue strategy across PJM, MISO and SPP, deciding which positions to advance, restudy or withdraw.
  • Manage cluster study deposits and readiness requirements, currently around $85m in posted security.
  • Negotiate interconnection agreements and network upgrade cost allocations with transmission owners.
  • Give the investment committee a clear view of grid risk and timing for every project in the late-stage pipeline.

What you will bring

  • Ten or more years in interconnection, transmission planning or grid engineering, at a developer, utility or RTO.
  • First-hand experience of FERC Order 2023 compliance and cluster studies in at least two markets.
  • Comfort with load flow and short circuit studies, even if you no longer run them yourself.
  • The judgement to weigh engineering detail against commercial priorities.
  • A team that has followed you before, or a clear record of building one.

The package

Base of $220,000 to $250,000, a 25% target bonus and a long-term incentive plan tied to megawatts reaching notice to proceed. Fully remote, with travel to the Austin office and project sites about once a month. First interviews w/c 12 October.
